Dean of the Graduate School
Greenwood Asher & Associates invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean, Graduate School at East Texas A&M University. The University seeks a strategic, collaborative, and student-centered leader who will advance graduate education, research training, graduate enrollment, and graduate student success.
Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean serves as the University’s chief academic and administrative officer for graduate education. This is an opportunity to help shape the future of graduate education at a student-ready R2 university while strengthening academic quality, interdisciplinary graduate education, workforce and community partnerships, and the University’s continued strategic growth.

The Graduate School supports the University’s rural-urban mission by working with academic colleges and university leadership to expand innovative graduate programs, strengthen the research enterprise, and prepare students for professional employment, teaching and administration roles, and research opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
The Dean will provide strategic and operational leadership across graduate education, including:
- Leading the Graduate School's strategic vision for academic excellence, graduate enrollment, research capacity, innovation, and student-ready service.
- Strengthening recruitment, retention, persistence, mentoring, professional development, research opportunities, career preparation, and graduate student success through data-informed planning and continuous improvement.
- Collaborating with academic colleges, Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, Research and Economic Development, Financial Affairs, alumni, industry, community partners, and external organizations to expand graduate research, interdisciplinary programs, student scholarships, fellowships, and philanthropic investment.
- Overseeing graduate academic affairs, including academic standards, admissions policies, graduate assistantships, degree completion, curricula, theses, dissertations, graduate degree plans, and the awarding of graduate degrees.
- Chairing the Graduate Council and partnering with faculty, department heads, deans, and university leadership to develop, implement, and maintain policies governing graduate education.
Qualifications and Experience
Required qualifications include:
- Earned doctorate from an accredited institution.
- Eight years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, including leadership experience in graduate education, academic administration, or a related area.
- Demonstrated record of scholarly achievement and graduate faculty service, with experience in graduate education, academic policy, or graduate student mentoring.
- Knowledge of graduate education administration, accreditation, assessment, applicable state and federal regulations, and Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board regulations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, consensus-building, strategic leadership, and collaborative problem-solving skills.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Eligibility for appointment as a tenured full professor at East Texas A&M University.
- Administrative leadership experience in graduate education or a graduate school.
- Experience supporting master’s and doctoral education, including graduate curriculum development, thesis and dissertation supervision, or graduate program assessment.
- Demonstrated success in strategic planning, enrollment management, budget administration, policy development, shared governance, and graduate student success initiatives.
- Experience developing interdisciplinary graduate programs or collaborating with research administration, external partners, or funding agencies to strengthen graduate education and research.
